Ezra Pound

American poet Ezra Pound had this portrait taken on the day he was admitted to St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, December 26, 1945. Pound spent 12 1/2 years at the Howard Pavilion after being found insane during his trial for treason after World War II. The poet refused all hospital food and was supplied with candy and caviar by his literary friends. (AP Photo)
